Software Headaches

I guess this post is more of a question...…
What software do you use at your institution (specifically for tour scheduling)? We're looking to depart from the paper calendars, I've searched online and found some out of print/production, some that caused an immediate headache, and others I can't really commit to.

If anyone can provide stories of success or failure, please share. I think this will be very useful to others.

Institution wide we use Vista for booking/invoice/scheduling

For smaller stuff we use ICAL on Macs...which you can then publish as a link to share virtually.

Outlook also has a good calender function that then intergrates with other Windows Office Apps

Also Google calender is good, especially if you need to share virtually.

Hope that helps

Within the museum, for tours, membership, traveling exhibit rentals, learning kit rentals, invoicing and credit card tracking, we use FileMaker Pro. I'm a nerd for this software - it's amazing.

For personal schedules and sharing with coworkers, the University that we're associated with uses Oracle Calendar.

Filemaker pro is great...it can also be linked and used with Outlook calender...when I was at M of TV & R they used this combo of filemaker and outlook calender/email and it worked well...

Within my program we use Meeting Maker for keeping track of school visits, community events, and sharing our individual schedule info. I'm a fan, although I haven't really experienced any other system.

We use Lotus Notes for e-mail, calendar, etc. As the IT Director, I hate it. I do not suggest it. We have a staff of 16-20, with varying levels of technology know-how. Most of the staff hate working with the program. Some people like it, but we don't. It wasn't our choice to go with Lotus, and so we are stuck with it. Support is costly, and it stinks too.
